program keeps closing (SSH/SFTP)

i have been using core ftp for about 2 months now, and have been mostly problem free. however, a few weeks ago the program kept quitting on me with an error message saying the CORE FTP HAS ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM. Then i had to click on a button if i wanted to report the problem to Microsoft (i use XP if that helps). Anyway, that only happened a few times and then it worked normally. But since last night I've had the problem of the application closing on me with that same message. It only happens when i try to change something in the folder "news" on my website. It doesn't at all happen when i change other folders. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be? Is it Microsoft related or Core FTP related? I have even tried uninstalling and reinstalling Core FTP a couple of times. Thanks for any help!

ever since last night, i am unable to get into the "news" directory at all. since then, not once has been successful. but i have been able to get into in the past without problems. so i guess i can't post the log that you requested. i am using the 1.2e version by the way. and unchecking the MDTM didn't work. i don't know what server software i'm using. i don't know how to find out either.
the news director is the only one i can't access without the program crashing (and the most important i need to access!!). bizzare.

yes, i am sure i've got permission to access it. i can't even touch the directory file without the program crashing. i tried to transfer the directory onto my hardrive and didn't even try to open it---it still crashed. oh well. thanks for trying to help!
