Version 2.1 not transferring jpg files correctly

I'm on version 2.1, build 1649. I am trying to transfer jpg files from an HP-UX server to a windows server. In the GUI client, jpg files are corrupt after transfer even though the messages indicate the transfer was successful. I chose the binary transfer mode, but the files transferred with extra bytes. just like if I (incorrectly) chose ASCII mode. Transferring the files from the command lines with the -B option works fine. Also version 1.3 transferred the files fine. Anybody else seen this?
